Departure from Yerevan to the north of Armenia - to the highest mountain of Armenia, Aragats.

On the way we will stop at the medieval monastery of Hovhanavank. Here, in the Basilica of St. Gregory (5th century) there is one of the few iconostases in Armenia. Adjacent to the temple to the north are the ruins of the church of the first Christians, dating back to the beginning of the 4th century. The main church of the monastery, Surb Karapet, was built in the 13th century. On the territory of the monastery there are ruins of an ancient fortress wall with towers. The monastery is located directly above the cliff into the Kasakh gorge and from here you can see a truly epic mountain landscape.

Stop at the monument to the Armenian alphabet in the village of Artashavan, Aragatsotn region, on the western slope of Mount Aragats. The complex was built in 2005, to mark the 1600th anniversary of the creation of Armenian writing. The complex includes sculptures of 39 letters of the Armenian alphabet, as well as monuments to great Armenian thinkers. All letters and statues are made of Armenian tuff. A favorite pastime of tourists at this place is to find the Armenian letter for their initials and take a photo with it as a souvenir.

Amberd Fortress is a historical defensive complex on the slope of Mount Aragats, including a 7th century castle and an 11th century church. The founders of the fortress were the princely family of Kamsakaroans, but the castle was later acquired by the Bagratuni dynasty, becoming the most important outpost of the kingdom. The fortress is one of the most visited places in Armenia among guests and local residents.
